Cebu Scoopy Club Balik Eskwela 3

"I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious." (Albert Einstein)
Albert Eisntein wasn't special according to him. He was just passionately curious. Each child is naturally curious to learn and to give more motivation to a child to learn more, the child should be supported and equipped with things needed for him/her to learn.

Cebu Scoopy Club just recently accomplished another milestone since its inception 4 years ago. They held their 5th outreach program, their Balik-Eskwela Project. This is their 3rd time to do a Balik Eskwela.

The meetup place was again, as usual at the office of Honda Philippines, Inc. in Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City. The weather was nice, a bit cloudy but better than rainy or sunny. Just a perfect weather for riders.

This time, our beneficiary were the grade one pupils of Bonbon Elementary School, located in the mountain barangay of Bonbon, Cebu City. As with our previous Balik Eskwela programs, we chose a remote school where help is scarce and the way to get there is not easy. Riding the roads less travelled.

We arrived at the venue at around 9 in the morning. This time, we didn't have a sponsor for a cage to help us bring the school supplies unfortunately, so some of us brought the school supplies in our Scoopys. The mountain roads of the Transcentral Highway is not too forgiving for a scooter but we didn't encounter any problem with our Honda Scoopy travelling these roads.

From the parking area of our Honda Scoopys, we still have to walk to get to their school. The path was a bit challenging. We have to walk down, up and across a bridge. A bit tiring for our city legs but it was all worth it. The grounds were wet as well because it rained in the morning that day.

Their school has some constructions going on managed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

It was good to see a government project being implemented on this mountain barangay. We just hoped that it will be finished on time or sooner if possible.

When we arrived at the school, we immediately unpacked all school supplies and re-pack them up to be distributed to each pupil.

Some prepared the snacks while others repacked the school supplies. At the same time, we started the program so that the children, their parents as well as the teachers won't have to wait for us to finish packing.

We prepared a small program just to enjoy with the pupils. We have them danced and played some games with prizes.

The teacher of the students also prepared a welcome speech for all of us at the same time explaining the current situation in their school and the ongoing DPWH project.

After an icebreaker of fun and games, we took a break and gave the children their snacks for this event. A fruit juice and a sandwich. It was not as grand as we hoped for but at the least it's a healthy snacks for the kids.

While the kids and their parents were eating, the atmosphere was a bit quiet. We thought of playing a music at that moment when my daughter volunteered to sing a song for the kids. I was a bit surprised because I would think my daughter would be too shy for that to ask. She can sing by the way, it's in the blood. :)

One of the Scooperos, Babing, also performed a dance number for the kids. The kids enjoyed the dance, as well as they were directed to follow the (weird) dance moves of Babing. If you are familiar with Babing, yes, he is that "lazy son" of a mother who calls out Babing to do some chores. It's all acting by the way. :) You can check out his videos here: Lilo-an Fun Trip.

After that, we then distributed the school supplies to the kids. By the way, only about half of the total number of kids were able to attend the event because the weather wasn't so nice at their barangay as you can see as the grounds were wet. We just left the shares of those to the teachers who weren't able to attend.

After that, we had a couple of photo opportunities with kids, parents and teachers. We also managed to talk to some of them and understand more regarding their school's situation and whether government help is prompt and always. We found out help for the school is a bit scarce but the projects came in during the elections. Oh well, that's how it works in the Philippines.

After the event, we rode to the Transcentral Highway, had lunch at the "maisan" area, straight ahead to the famous biker's den in the Transcentral Highway of Balamban area, Felixberto's Burgers and Hotdogs and relaxed for a couple of hours. Fogs and rains welcomed us and we enjoyed them because after all, it was a successful event.

Here's our video of the event:

BALIK ESKWELA 3 - CSC 5th Outreach Program
BALIK ESKWELA 3 This is Cebu Scoopy Club's 5th Outreach program since its inception 4 years ago. The school is a bit remote in a rural barangay of Bonbon, Cebu City. We would like to thank all our sponsors for without them, we won't be successful. The generous employees of Cebu Port Authority and Josephine Canonigo through Joy Puerto Bathan and Reyden Bathan Arkiceramika, who has been supporting us since then and Worldwide Interiors through Noel Tuazon Divinagracia Lanz Pizza although it's a bit late but we'll be using the fund on our next outreach program. And of course to all Scooperoos who donated and/or helped during the preparation and actual event. I won't name you all cause I might forget someone.. :) May the Good God bless us more so we can share more! More outreach to come! Ride Safe! Ride Scoopy! Godspeed!
