August 22, 2014. Our plan for the day was to take the countryside tour. No, we were not going to pay for those countryside tour packages because we have Mesha (our Honda Scoopy). Hehehe. But we needed a map. I had a map in my phone but I would prefer a  tourist map. Unfortunately, we were not able to secure it the day before (August 21, 2014) because it was a holiday and the tourism office was closed and then on this day, we were planning to go early so the tourism office was still closed at that time. But you know what? Part of having a great adventure is to look for it. To heck with the tourism map, let's scoot Bohol's countryside tour without it. Read on. :)

We woke up early around 5:30 in the morning and decided to have a light breakfast on the way if we see a bakery or something like that. Our first plan was to get to the Blood Compact Site but unfortunately we missed it (we were able to find it during our Bohol Island Loop which I will blog about later on). We saw a small Sari-sari Store by the roadside and they also had an automatic choco drink machine so we had our light breakfast there.

Then we continued with our journey and the plan was to get to the Chocolate Hills early in the morning first. We knew we will be passing along many countryside tourist spots but we would just come back to them after the Chocolate Hills.

First off, we made our way to the infamous Manmade Forest. Boy oh boy! What a refreshing and relaxing ride we had and the roads we were trekking on were great! This was one of the best part when riding in Bohol, a can't miss part.

After slowing down at the Manmade Forest and took some photos, we sped up to Carmen, where the Chocolate Hills Complex was located. On the way, we saw different tourist spots like the Loboc Eco Adventure Park, Zoocolate Hills Animal Park, Tarsier Conservation Center, Simply Butterflies, and a lot more. We planned to come back to each of those after we visited the chocolate hills.

See those nice roads above? Most of the roads were like that, asphalt or tarmac but some were cement which were sometimes rugged and bumpy and not good on your arse, hehehe. And then there we were at around 8:00 in the morning, we were able to reach the complex. We thought going there was not far, hahaha! Miscalculated, we started at around 6:30AM but we reached it at 8:00AM. Okay, we had breakfast, slowed down and stopped to take photos at the man made forest and on the other tourist spots because again, we didn't know it was farther than we assumed. Hehehe.

We were not asked to pay the entrance fee. I don't know why. The staff at the entrance just told us to proceed. Maybe because the place was not yet 100% repaired. The top of the complex where there was supposed to be a wishing well was still under repair as well as the paved way going down from the top was still closed at that time (not the stairs). Generally, the complex was fine, it still served its purpose of letting you see and be amazed at the fantastic chocolate-colored hills. Now I know why this was one of the signature spots of Bohol. We wanted to have a closer photo with a chocolate hill and thankfully, we saw one when we were on our way to Sagbayan Peak.

After hanging out in the Chocolate Hills Complex, our next immediate plan was to proceed to Sagbayan Peak. I promised my daughter to bring her to that place where she would meet her favorite Disney characters. It was like more than 20 kilometers from the Chocolate Hills (not quite sure, hehe).

You will be treated with a lot of popular television characters here mostly for kids. From Disney to Marvel characters as well as animals. Your kids will love this place for sure. Entrance fee was Php30. We didn't check their water world because it was almost noon time and we planned to have our lunch in Loboc River. The tourist spot also had a Kids Town where there was a castle, playground, painted walls and larger than life TV/Movie characters like Iron Man and Superman.

After Sagbayan Peak, we went back on our way to the other tourist spots. Admittedly, there were spots that we missed like the spot where there were tribal people because we wanted to be able to get to Loboc River by Lunch. The one spot that we visited before our lunch was the Shiphaus. It was a house that was shaped like a ship obviously, hehehe. It has been featured in Rated K and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. The guide was also very friendly and funny. Entrance fee was Php20 and we also asked the guide how much we would pay him after the tour was over. He told us it depends on us but he would only ask Php20 if it was up to him. We gave him more than that of course because we were entertained by him. :)

Then, with our tummies grumbling, we rode on to Loboc and tried the Loboc River Cruise with a Buffet Lunch at Php300. Entrance fee was Php100 so that made it Php400/person. It was a little expensive but it was already a buffet and we were starving already. Hahaha! We passed again the magnificent man made forest in Loboc. Always a nice road to trek again and again.

When we reached Loboc, we immediately paid for whatever that we were supposed to pay and then hopped on the boat. The foods were already served and because we were hungry already, we immediately started our lunch even though some people were still not on board. Hehehe.

Then at some point in the cruise, we stopped by a small hut at the riverside to be entertained with the locals playing ukuleles and dancing tinikling. Check out our video to view more of those. Since I know how to play a ukulele (and guitar), I managed to join them as well. It was an awesome experience. I didn't dance with the tinikling, though. Hahaha!

Our tummies were filled but the day was far from over yet so, our next stop: Loboc Eco Adventure. We have already tried a long zipline (800 meters) in Lilo-an Cebu (Papa Kits) so this time we didn't try the zipline. What we tried here was the cable car. It was less expensive also. Hehehe. Php250/adult while the child was free to ride. Good deal! At the other end of the cable car travel, my daughter also made some Korean friends and even sang a song with them, Girl's Generation. :)

After that, we proceeded to view one of Bohol's famous signatures, the Tarsiers. On our way, we made a side trip to the hanging bridge at Sevilla across Sipatan River. When we reached Sevilla, the roads weren't that good but it was still okay, we had some banana snacks. I forgot the name but it's a banana barbeque with butter, like Ginanggang. We loved it. :)

Then, it was time to go back to the pension house and call it a day. We first dropped by at Baclayon Church where you can't go to the inside of it because it was very dangerous. We managed to offer some prayers near their museum. No, we didn't go inside the museum. Then we rested a little bit at the pension house.

At night, after refreshing in a hot shower, we roamed around the city and looked for a restaurant that should offer some food that we haven't tried yet. No luck, we found McDonalds, Mang Inasal and some typical restaurants and carenderias. Afterwards, we were planning to go back to Gerarda but we saw this Payag restaurant that offers Chicken Inato. I don't know how that one was cooked and I haven't tasted one although it appeared like a barbeque. So, we tried the Chicken Inato there. It's fine, we didn't like the sauce because it was filled with like saltwater, hahaha (ignorant). I think Mang Inasal tastes better than Payag's Chicken Inato, IMO. :) And also, we weren't able to take a photo but you can check it out on our video above.

Then, I decided to take another round of reflexology. My wife refused for another one so it was only me, hehehe. Paired with a light touch of San Miguel, it was a very fulfilled day for us. And we took balut to the Pension House to end it. Hahaha!
