Biketoberfest 2014 - The Nascency of Honda Scooters Cebu
On October 24 to 26, 2014, Cebu celebrated the grandest and most-awaited bike festival of the province, the 6th Annual Biketoberfest initiated by Star Touring and Riding Association. This year's slogan was "Go for a ride, carve the classic path, star keeps rolling on the road.". This 3-day event was joined by a lot of clubs of Cebu City and nearby towns/cities and even joined by solo riders. It was held at the IT Park, Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City. A lot of big bikes like Harleys and Ducatis, customized bikes and also the popular smaller cc-ed bikes attended.
In line with this activity, 3 Honda scooter clubs of Cebu decided to form a single group to unite all Honda scooters, Beat, Scoopy and Zoomer-X. The 3 clubs, Cebu Beat Riders, Cebu Scoopy Club and Zoomer-X Club of Cebu formed into Honda Scooters Cebu. Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) and Honda Motor World, Inc. (HMW) also never failed to support the 3 clubs, as always and so, they decided to initiate a ride for the Honda Scooters Cebu, the first ever. The proposed route was Cebu City-Balamban-Toledo-Naga and back to Cebu City via Minglanilla and Talisay SRP.
The registration started at around 8 in the morning on October 25, 2014, the 2nd day of the Biketoberfest 2014. There were a total of 36 riders from the 3 different clubs. A lot of riders were not able to come because it was a Saturday and most still needed to go to work.
The ride started at around 10AM. Our first stop was at Ayala Heights in Busay, Cebu City. We had snacks there, courtesy of HPI and HMW and of course, the pictorials.
After that, we then went to the infamous biker's den in Balamban, Felixberto Burgers and Hotdogs. If you want to have a short quick ride out of the city pollution, this is the place to be. The place became a riders favorite because it's not that far from the city, around 30 kilometers and it has one of the best roads a rider would like with twisties and nice asphalts coupled with really nice scenery of the countryside.
Since, we had snacks already at the Ayala Heights, we didn't buy any burgers or hotdogs at Felixberto. After a couple of minutes, we rode off again downhill to the town proper of Balamban. The rain started to fall by then but we were ready rain or shine. So, we still trekked the roads of Balamban up to Toledo City even though it was drizzling. Some of us opted to wear rain coats and some of us just enjoyed the wet ride. We paid a courtesy visit to Toledo Honda Motor World and then head off to the nearest Carenderia for our lunch, again courtesy of HPI and HMW. It was raining and thankfully, we were greeted with a hot pork soup. Perfect!
This rider right here asked for a garbage bag because he was not able to bring a rain coat. Nice try! :)
After a sumptuous meal and a short rest, we started to hit the road again and then this time, we enjoyed the nice twisty roads of the Toledo-Naga roads. I missed riding on these roads and so it was quite fulfilling to ride on these roads again. Lots of nice curves there coupled with countryside scenery at cruising speed.
In the afternoon, we had snacks again and this time at the South Road Properties (SRP) Baywalk. And of course, these were free sponsored by HPI and HMW. We rested a little bit and just unwound and enjoyed the view.
And finally, we headed back to the IT Park and enjoyed the rest of the day (and night) the programs of Biketoberfest. An awesome dinner was served as well courtesy of our sponsors, Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) and Honda Motor World (HMW). We stayed until midnight because we waited for the raffle draw of 3 motorcycles given away. None of us got one but there is always a next time next year. :)
3 motorcycles were given away that night, a Honda Scoopy, a Suzuki and a 200-cc Kawasaki bike. I am not too sure of the models of the last 2 bikes actually so kindly correct me. :)
